It is indeed McPhee’s last show today on WMEX and she’s emotional. She makes it sound like the other hosts on the station also will be going off soon.Sandy Shack said she’ll be back Monday.Supposedly they may be on till the 15th or soJune 5, 2017 at 8:09 am #174791
WMEX staff have been told the station in is process of being sold, we hear.June 5, 2017 at 3:03 pm #174792
Transmitter site lease expires at end of month;new owner will have to renew or renegotiate, or find new one..maybe going dark for awhileJune 6, 2017 at 4:48 pm #174813
What is the latest?
I still can’t figure out why this station does not diplex on the 890 site and get more of metro West in front of the pattern, as well as get rid of that expensive Waltham site.June 6, 2017 at 9:38 pm #174818

The lack of owning the transmission site should have been a liability the current owners ought to have been aware of in the first place… when they brokered time on the station months beforehand.
They’d have to find someone who is even more of a broadcast neophyte than even they were.
Recorded in Ultra Stereo, the ultimately superior cousin to Normal Stereo!June 7, 2017 at 5:27 am #174819
Am wondering if new owners can find a way to diplex off a current site as WNTN is doing with its new home on the WJIB site (and new COL).
I have no details other than hearing there’s a search for a new site as part of this, and wonder if 1510 has to go dark for a short time in the process.Short enough to avoid license deletion.June 7, 2017 at 1:32 pm #174823
The most obvious diplex spot would be the 890 site with a deep cut s/w toward Nashville and WMRC Milford (1490), with most of market and COL east. I would presume with 50KW and good processing they should be just fine in the city of Boston.
Another idea may be to diplex on the 650 WSRO site in Framingham. Again, most of the market would be in front of the pattern.
The Needham 850 site may work, but too many valuable suburbs on the back end.
Same with the Newton 1330/1600/1200 site. With a required cut toward Nashville (s/w), they need to pull back a bit geographically.June 8, 2017 at 10:06 pm #174852
Someone on I Love AM Radio Facebook group says MEX has new owner for 175k and lower rent on its towers, not sure if trueJune 9, 2017 at 6:34 am #174854
That info may not be right, paperwork will be filed but supposedly they could go dark after 6/30 when tower lease expires.Could they find new tower and go with less power?June 10, 2017 at 7:51 am #174881
Someone heard the Fri night After Hours show and one host said “we have three weeks left, not sure what happens after that”June 27, 2017 at 5:25 pm #175130
According to the Renegade Radio show yesterday, the program will continue streaming and perhaps will be on an FM in town but will no longer be on WMEX.New owners take over the station after Fri June 30.No word yet..maybe brokered..ethnic?oldies?
Supposedly the transmitter site problem fixed through re negotiationJune 29, 2017 at 10:00 am #175165
Apparently said this morning Renegade Radio will do a farewell show tomorrow, Fri 6-30 3-6 pm and they will rent the Quincy studios to produce comedy bits for their streaming, perhaps terrestrial showJune 29, 2017 at 10:06 am #175166
Supposedly Jimmy C said last night that tonite 6-29 is last oldies show and station turns off tomorrow 6 pm..maybe NO “new owner”?June 29, 2017 at 1:29 pm #175173
If it gets the switch-off, it’s a sad end to once-great radio station. It’s been long in coming, however — thirty-five years or so, since WITS bit the dust. The station has gone through almost innumerable changes in call letters, formats and owners. All that, combined with the decline of AM in general plus the station’s perennial transmission and coverage area problems, has created what has finally become a perfect storm. Hopefully someone will step in and the ship won’t go down, but I’m not optimistic.June 29, 2017 at 5:56 pm #175177
With the two posts above suggesting WMEX-1510 may go off the air entirely tomorrow (June 30th) at 6 P.M., I’ve started a new thread on the Boston board about whether WMEX indeed will go off the air for good.
